Course Description:

Motion Light Lab produces bilingual storybook apps for children around the world to enjoy. Unbeknownst to those young readers, VL2's bilingual storybook apps are not just fun- they’re also incredibly beneficial! The design behind the apps is optimized based on proven research that employs best strategies for language acquisition for Deaf children. We want to share the background information behind the design of our apps, as well as show you the results/benefits of using those bilingual storybook apps. Participants will leave with an appreciation for the broader positive impacts of integrating VL2 storybook apps into educational strategies for children.

Learner Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

Explain the proven benefits of bilingual VL2 storybook apps
Recognize the enhanced language skills resulting from exposure to both signed and written text in bilingual storybook apps
State the cognitive advantages tied to bilingualism– such as emphasizing better problem-solving, multitasking, and cognitive flexibility
